A New Song

I am a firm believer that creativity is an important part of the Christian experience. That is why the Bible tells us to sing a new song. I believe that the creative exercises that we go through in our Christian experience are a form of meditation on spiritual concepts. Even writing this blog post every day is a form of meditation. It triggers me to think about spiritual concepts. It triggers me to look at spiritual concepts in a different manner. Writing is a way of thinking through issues.

Composing music, I have found, has another component. Composing, for me, allows working out pent-up emotions. Composing allows me to express joy or sadness. Composing also allows me to lift myself up from depression into a state of wellness.

The same thing holds true for poetry. Writing a poem allows the poet to vent feelings from their innermost being.

So, what am I saying? I am saying what the biblical writer said. Sing to the Lord a new song.
